Requirements and Prerequisites

These are the requirements for the full installation including the Kerberos module. If you don't install the Kerberos module for Sharity, you don't need Kerberos installed with the operating system.

Host Platforms

Solaris

  • Solaris 7, 8, 9 or 10 on Sun Sparc or Intel processors
  • Kerberos installed with the operating system
  • MIT Kerberos can be installed alternatively
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

HP-UX

  • HP-UX 11.00 or 11.11 on PA-Risc (HPPA) processors (please ask for 10.20)
  • Kerberos installed with the operating system
  • MIT Kerberos can be installed alternatively
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

AIX

  • AIX 4.3 and newer on PowerPC processors
  • Kerberos installed with the operating system
  • MIT Kerberos can be installed alternatively
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

IRIX

  • IRIX 6.5
  • Kerberos installed with the operating system
  • MIT Kerberos can be installed alternatively
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

Tru64 Unix

  • Tru64 Unix 4.0 or 5.x
  • Kerberos support is not yet available.
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

Linux

  • Any recent distribution with 2.x kernel
  • MIT Kerberos
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

FreeBSD

  • FreeBSD 5.2 or newer. If you have FreeBSD 6, you need to install libc version 5 which is part of the "/usr/ports/misc/compat5x" package.
  • Kerberos support is not yet available.
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

OpenBSD

  • OpenBSD 3.6 or newer. If you run Sharity on a version of OpenBSD newer than 3.6, you must also download the OpenBSD 3.6 libc and libpthread from our web site.
  • Kerberos support is not yet available.
  • optionally X-Windows system for GUI

Mac OS X

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or higher.
Mac OS X is now supported, but it is not our primary target platform. This means that we will (probably) not implement a Cocoa or Carbon based GUI. However, we provide a binary for this platform and a GUI based on the Fast Light ToolKit (FLTK).

Supported SMB/CIFS Servers

  • fully supported: Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP Home/Professional, Samba, Network Appliance
  • interoperable with (limited testing): AppleShare IP, FacetWin, Compaq Advanced Server, Helios PCShare 3.1, IBM AS400 v5r1/r2
